Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former world number one, has endured a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.

Presently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's first trophy following the Rome competition and first on a hard court since spring of the previous year.

Success also means he has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a title is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused observers to question if his ability to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete positively, supported by an improved serve.

The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional championship, took control to push for a final set.

He defended four early-game chances in a close third set before the champion broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
