World Series Game 7 Attracts 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The thrilling extra-inning matchup that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this is the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game drew 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last Game 7 featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 ranked 7th, Game 5 came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language program in the country after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen audience growth for two consecutive years.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership was 16.1M. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew 8.09M viewers, an 8% rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in 16 various languages.
